The Freedom Lodge

These pieces have been found and purposed as sacred objects to honor the winged ones, the element of air, the cosmic body of stars. May these pieces symbolize prayer, and the carrying of the prayer, into the heart of the Divine.

In the center of my heart

is a baby bird.

The Winged One, 

sunlight songs

alive.

Forgiving

all I have burned

with my body. 

The first glimpse of daybreak

cracks through cold branches,

an inhale of sweet bliss

after the lingering silence of winter.

The soft bloom

of our light returning

as a woman,

an opened iris wing

through the washed depths

of weighted stones

at night.

All is well. All is reborn.

All is so alive.

This wall hanging is 52" wide and 43" long. The wood has been wrapped with feathers, leather cord, twine and dyed fabric. 

This nest was created out of two snake skins from a large black snake living under the stone patio of this house. She has shown up during incredible and potent times of transformation in my life. This nest is cradling an egg and is embellished with cardinal feathers and porcupine quills.

The snake is close to the energy of earth and represents life force. She is reminiscent of unconscious drives and primal instincts. The Snake is an animal that represents healing, transformational life changes, and spiritual guidance through the unknown.

Where is the light in the heart tree of me?

At the edge of the woods

under a white sky

are dark, mudded paths

and months of tired, worn snow.

In boots, I touch the bark

kick up leaves

scouting for signs

of maple

between the ash, tulip and oak.

I've never tapped a tree before.

I've been living dormant,

an inkling of magnificence inside.

I've been told light will come

at the thaw of dawn

when I turn my will to God.

Drill a hole, hammer spiles

set buckets on eight

thick, calloused pillars

and await the sun

to awaken threads

of slightly sweetened sap.

Awaken rivers

of boarded up Shakti glow.

Awaken something

back into life

that is

possibly magnificent.

possibly more than I alone

have known

with my single

shattered and stirring

sprung heart.

With gratitude and praise, this celebration of the deer was created. The deer's medicine teaches us gentleness in word, thought and touch, to listen, love unconditionally, and embody a deep sense of grace.

To be a priestess is to be a woman in true Spiritual Leadership. Some may call her a healer, a medicine woman, visionary, mother, spirit-medium, machi, warrior.  Whatever her title, she is an inspiration through her teachings, her action and her counsel. She raises the Spirit though her practice and her connection to Higher Consciousness. She is a spiritual activist doing Divine work.  She is a conduit of Love. 

The deer teaches us the power of gratitude, of sacrifice for the higher good and the divine connection to other Woodland Goddess Creatures. The deer reminds us of our own innocence, to be nurtured, protected and heard. 

Through watching and honoring the deer, we understand loving both ourselves and others will bring us to true wholeness.

These bones have been honored and brought to life, dressed for a ceremony of dreams. The third eye has been embellished with indigo dye and adorned with paint, representing an opening to higher truth and inner wisdom. 

Durga a is a divine and breathtaking warrior goddess, filled with light from every direction. She is a protectress, the unstoppable energy of spiritual growth and the battle cry for the evolution of the collective consciousness. She is wisdom, guardian energy and the strength to carry out what you need to do. 

Take out your tools, woman.

Build a boat.

Sage the hearth.

Gather your poems, books, arrows, God

your art meditations

and drum

the heartbeat back

before the baby deer

These pieces have been created with strips of thread and cord, then hand dyed.

This wall hanging has been made with a slice of wood found in the forest. Small feathers circle the heart center of the tree. Fabric hangs from the wood, representing wings of a bird spirit, a phoenix, rising from the center of creation.

These woven necklaces are made to bring a positive vibration to your heart and throat. They can also be hung as a divine wall piece. 

Each piece is hand woven, and wooden beads are threaded on the ends of many of the cords. The feathers are all hand painted. The pieces are about 4" wide and hangs 18" down.

American Buffalo, or Bison is the symbol of manifesting abundance and celebrates the sacredness of uniting the physical with the spiritual. By uniting right action with right prayer, our struggles will disappear and the path will open to fullness and abundance with ease. The Buffalo teaches us not to push or force, but gently move ahead allowing the flow of the universe to carry out it's natural rhythm.

The Buffalo is a massive creature, it's body symbolizes the reserves we carry, which are either burdens or rewards depending on how we can unite and align them with the Divine. The head of the Buffalo symbolizes heaven and the cosmos while the dense body is close to the earth. This illustrates how we need to stay grounded while seeking abundance in any aspect of our lives, combining the mundane with the spiritual.

These skulls have been dyed with indigo, and painted. The third eye point has been celebrated through this process, calling in the celestial bodies, symbolizing the vast internal wisdom, truth and guidance that is within each of us. Hand painted fabric hang off the horns.

"In the tradition of Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, the human has 10 bodies, not just one.  Yogi Bhajan taught that the 6th body is the Arc Line, which is a halo that stretches around your forehead earlobe to earlobe. Women have an extra arc line that runs from nipple to nipple and assists in the bonding with an infant.  If your aura is the vehicle of light in which you drive, the arc line is the steering wheel.  It provides guidance to the aura (essentially communicate in the “state of the union” of your body and mind). This wall piece symbolizes the infinite and expansive sky, with the arc of a bird wing in flight. The gradation of blue is laced with tiny wooden beads as symbols of the cosmos, woven with stardust and particles of creation on the cusp of new birth.

          Loyalty and Truth

This wall hanging was made out of delicate and divine piece of vine found in the forest. It's center has a spiral, and from it comes a tiny feather of the Blue Jay. Leather cord hangs from either side of the vine in balance. 

Blue Jay symbolizes truth, faithfulness, and solidarity because they are vigilant in their work. They keep the same mate for life, which is symbolic of endurance, patience and loyalty. The Blue Jay is a meaningful symbol for those wishing to honor any long-lasting bond between friends, family and lovers.

In the spiritual realm, the Blue Jay teaches us clarity and vision. In Native American symbolism (namely the Sioux Nation) the azure color of the bird against the blue sky indicates double clarity or double vision. The spirit of "blue on blue" speaks of a pure soul, a truthful heart, and clarity of thought. The white and black markings on the feathers symbolize the ability to link heaven and earth and access the power of both. 

The Blue Jay will make its home anywhere, symbolizing resourcefulness, determination and adaptability by making the most out of what is given. 

This piece is 10 " wide and 44" long.

How have you burned to ash and been reborn?

The Phoenix has been celebrated though many cultures as an unforgettable symbol of power, strength and renewal. It's ability to die and come back to life symbolizes resurrection, reemergence and transformation. It resembles the cycle of time, the cycles of life and the transformational medicine of the fire. 

What is left when all illusion has been burned away and destroyed? Only love, pure and radiant love. 

           Turning Fire into Gold

The Goddess Kali is the massive love force that literally destroys the ego, ignorance, indulgence and arrogance. When she erupts in your life, she will cut down and destroy all extraneous things, transforming new life into wisdom and the deepest love. Violence can be part of the creative process, and Kali teaches us that for something new to be born, old structures and ways of thought need to be completely obliterated in order to make space for higher truth. This Spear is burned and charred on one end, and gold on the other signifying the transformative and life birthing power of destruction and fire.

The stick measures 36" long, and is about 5" wide. The cord hangs down 38".

Lightening is a powerful symbol, associated with power, clarity, the sacred, fertility, creativity, revelation, inspiration, destruction, and enlightenment.

Lightning can be seen as a symbol of intuition and spiritual illumination. It's the union of fire and water, two seemingly opposite elements join together to create a phenomenal interaction.

This stick has a shape like a bolt of lightening. The ends are painted with copper paint and cord is knotted and secured around the wood.

This piece is 40 " x 50" and mounts to the wall.

These wall hangings represents the divine element of water. The symbolism of water has a universal undertone of purity and fertility. It is life to all things, feeds all things, sustains all things. Water washes away all our grief and burdens, cleanses the spirit and awakens the soul. Water is the bridge between the sky and the earth, the bridge between land and air. 

In Taoist tradition, water is considered an aspect of wisdom. The concept here is that water takes on the form in which it is held and moves in the path of least resistance. Here the symbolic meaning of water speaks of a higher wisdom we may all aspire to mimic.
